Plot[]
In the first book of the series, the WUC is shown to own an illegal hermium mining colony on the planet Kerenza IV. The WUC's rival, BeiTech Industries, catches wind of this. Instead of reporting the colony to the universal law and justice organization (the United Terran Authority), BeiTech spontaneously chooses to invade the planet, along with the innocent civilians living there.
Some of the fleeing refugee ships bearing survivors actually belong to the WUC. In addition, some of the refugees are WUC miners or family of miners, and on Heimdall Jump Station, WUC workers frequent the wormhole and maintain the jump station. Hanna Donnelly dons a gray Consortium uniform after getting rid of her jumpsuit in Gemina as she escapes the BeiTech auditor squads.
