MEMENTO: An ILLUMINAE Files novella is a novella in the The ILLUMINAE Files series. It is a prequel to ILLUMINAE: The ILLUMINAE Files 01 and features AIDAN as the main character.

Synopsis[]

December, 2574. Forty-three days before the BeiTech attack on Kerenza IV.

This is the story of my first friendship.

This is the tale of my first murder?

Some monsters are born.

But I?

< ERROR >

I was made.[1]

Plot[]

The story starts off with an e-mail from Olivia Klein to her father, Johan Klein. The email describes how she's passed the psych evaluation and is now officially a crew member aboard UTA battlecarrier Alexander. Next, we are introduced to Olivia Klein from AIDAN's perspective. It is important to note that AIDAN is first formally introduced to Olivia six weeks before it sustains damage from the attack at Kerenza IV. AIDAN makes remarks that Olivia is seen to have strings tied to her fingers in all different colors, with a single word tattooed around both her left and right pointer fingers: Memento.

The novella continues to follow AIDAN and Olivia's interactions, mostly from AIDAN's point of view. The most important conversations between the two is their conversation about the trolley problem and one of their final conversations about the origins of Olivia's finger tattoos. Other important details that are noticed is that before AIDAN is damaged on Kerenza, the text during its segments originates from the left instead of from the middle like in the three main novels and it refers to itself in the third-person because it is not alive.
